Peter Obi has denied borrowing money or issuing bonds while he was governor of Anambra State, as the argument over liabilities linked to projects from his administration continued.

Obi said he had no quarrel with Governor Chukwuma Soludo and was not interested in returning as governor of any state. He said the public debate should focus on verifiable records rather than political attacks.

In his response, Obi said he left office in March 2014 without owing salaries, pensions, gratuities or contractors whose projects had been completed, certified and verified. He said he left enough cash and investments to clear any obligations that might later be confirmed.

Punch reported that Obi also appealed to governors to allow presidential candidates and other contestants to campaign freely in their states, regardless of party affiliation.

Vanguard reported the same fresh response and highlighted Obi’s denial that he borrowed or issued bonds as governor. The denial is the latest turn in the wider Anambra debt dispute, which has drawn comments from Soludo and other political figures.
