Otukpo Imposes Dusk-To-Dawn Curfew After Deadly Ugboju Attack
Otukpo Local Government Council in Benue State has imposed a dusk-to-dawn curfew after a deadly attack on the Efeyi community in Ugboju sparked protests.
The curfew runs from 7pm to 6am daily. Vanguard and Daily Post reported that council chairman Maxwell Ogiri announced the restriction after consultations with community leaders.
The local response follows the Ugboju attack earlier reported by NaijaTrend here. The latest reports said the council acted after concerns that angry youths could move victims’ bodies to the Och’Idoma’s palace and damage property.
Ogiri said security personnel had been deployed to strategic locations to prevent further unrest and restore calm.
The Benue State Police Command said preliminary findings showed that the attackers had invaded the area to rustle cattle before shooting at residents while fleeing. Police also reported that two suspected attackers were killed during an exchange of gunfire and that an AK-47 rifle was recovered.
