Police have confirmed the abduction of Rev. Fr. John Otache, parish priest of St Margaret’s Parish in Ajegbe-Awume, Ohimini Local Government Area of Benue State.
The Catholic Diocese of Otukpo said he was abducted on Tuesday, October 13, while returning from Otukpo along the Otobi Amejo-Ajegbe Road.
In a News Agency of Nigeria report carried by Punch on Friday, the Benue police command said it had begun an investigation and that efforts were ongoing to rescue the priest. Vanguard quoted the command as saying he had not yet been rescued.
The diocese disclosed the incident in a statement signed by its chancellor, Rev. Fr. Joseph Itodo. It said Bishop Michael Apochi had asked for prayers for Otache’s safe return and for other people being held by kidnappers.
