NYSC Warns Corps Members Against Campaigns And AI Misinformation

The National Youth Service Corps has warned corps members not to use their uniforms, identities or social media accounts to promote political parties and candidates ahead of the 2027 general elections.

NYSC Director-General, Brigadier General Olakunle Nafiu, also urged corps members to check information carefully before sharing online posts, especially images and videos that may have been manipulated with artificial intelligence.

Nafiu gave the warning during a visit to the NYSC permanent orientation camp in Katsina State for the 2026 Batch B Stream II orientation course. Daily Post reported that he reminded corps members that partisan political activity is not allowed during the service year.

Punch reported that Nafiu told corps members to think before reposting social media content and to ask where pictures came from, when they were first taken and whether they had been altered.

The warning comes as political activity builds toward 2027 and election-related misinformation remains a concern for officials, civil society groups and voters. Corps members are often deployed for election duties, making the agency’s neutrality rules a recurring issue before major polls.

Nafiu said corps members who use their NYSC identity to campaign for parties or candidates could face disciplinary action.
