NSCDC Arrests Two Suspected Cattle Rustlers In Kano

The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps in Kano has arrested two suspected cattle rustlers after operatives allegedly found a cow hidden in the rear of a vehicle.

The command said the suspects, Jamilu Saadu, 45, and Nura Abdullahi, 37, were stopped around 3 a.m. on Tuesday at a mining checkpoint along the Tudun Wada-Kiru Road, Rahama Round, in Kiru Local Government Area.

According to the NSCDC, the men were travelling in a Sharon Galaxy vehicle with registration number JJN 606 AE when operatives discovered the cow tied down and concealed at the back of the vehicle.

The corps said two other suspected accomplices fled when they saw the operatives. It said efforts were under way to arrest them and identify the owner of the recovered animal.

The arrested suspects are in custody with the recovered cow and two machetes while investigators look into the alleged cattle rustling. The command said the suspects would be charged to court after the investigation.

The case comes amid repeated security complaints around livestock theft and rural crime in parts of northern Nigeria, where stolen animals can quickly feed wider local tensions.
