The Federal High Court in Abuja has fixed 27 January 2027 for judgment in the terrorism-related trial of Tukur Mamu after lawyers presented their final arguments on Monday.

Justice Mohammed Umar reserved judgment after both sides adopted their final written addresses. Mamu has denied the charges, which include alleged illegal possession of a firearm.

Mamu’s lawyer, Johnson Usman, asked the court to discharge and acquit him, arguing that the prosecution had failed to establish its case. He said the prosecution never produced the licence for a rifle allegedly recovered from Mamu’s home.

Prosecution lawyer David Kaswe urged the court to convict Mamu. He said the licence had been tendered in evidence, together with the rifle, during the testimony of a prosecution witness.

The case concerns allegations linked to ransom negotiations after the March 2022 Abuja–Kaduna train attack, when passengers were taken hostage. Prosecutors allege that Mamu collected payments from victims’ families on behalf of Boko Haram, which he denies.

The court will decide the charges when it delivers judgment on 27 January. Mamu is presumed innocent until the court rules.
