The Nigeria Football Federation has stopped the process for its September 27 elective congress and placed Emmanuel Ikpeme in charge of the secretariat on an interim basis, widening the shake-up that began with the resignation of the federation’s top officials.

Ikpeme, who was Deputy General Secretary, is to oversee the NFF Secretariat as interim General Secretary. Ademola Olajire, the federation’s Director of Media and Communications, was also named interim Deputy General Secretary.

The National Sports Commission backed the changes after Ibrahim Gusau resigned as NFF president, alongside General Secretary Mohammed Sanusi and members of the Executive Committee. The suspended congress had been scheduled for Lafia, Nasarawa State.

A fresh electoral process is expected after football reforms are completed in consultation with FIFA, CAF, the government and football stakeholders. The NFF also directed the leadership of the NPFL, NNL, Nigeria Women Football League and Nationwide League One to hand league administration to chief operating officers or NFF staff chosen for the transition.
