NFF Denies FIFA Letter Threatening Nigeria With Sanction

The Nigeria Football Federation has denied reports that FIFA sent a letter threatening Nigeria with sanctions over alleged government interference in football administration.

In a statement on Tuesday, the NFF said the document circulating in some media spaces was fake. It said FIFA had accepted the resignations of former principal officers and members of the federation executive committee.

The federation also said a Nigerian delegation met FIFA president Gianni Infantino, with NFF president Ibrahim Gusau and National Sports Commission chairman Shehu Dikko among those reported in the delegation.

The denial followed reports that FIFA had demanded explanations over alleged interference in the federation. Vanguard later reported the NFF rebuttal after first carrying the alleged FIFA demand.

The NFF said Nigerian football remained in contact with FIFA and asked the public to disregard the purported letter.
