NDLEA Inducts AK-47 Rifles, Launches Weapons Training After 36 Years
The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency has commenced the formal induction of AK-47 rifles and advanced pistols into its operational framework as part of efforts to strengthen its fight against violent drug trafficking syndicates.
Vanguard reported that the Chairman of the agency, Brig.-Gen. Mohamed Buba Marwa, announced this on Monday while inaugurating a specialised Train-the-Trainer Course on Weapon Handling for AK-47 Type 56-1 rifles and HS-9/CF98A pistols at the NDLEA Academy in Jos, Plateau State.
Marwa described the development as a major milestone in the agency’s 36-year history, saying it reflects the increasing sophistication of drug cartels operating in the country.
Punch also reported the induction, saying the NDLEA armed its officers with AK-47s to fight drug cartels.
According to Vanguard, Marwa commended President Tinubu for boosting the agency’s operational capacity and said the weapons training would help officers protect themselves during operations.
The agency said the Train-the-Trainer Course would equip selected officers with the skills to handle the newly inducted weapons and train their colleagues across commands.
