NDC Appeals Court Ruling, Uploads Peter Obi On INEC Portal
The Nigeria Democratic Congress has filed an appeal against the Federal High Court ruling that set aside an earlier order directing the Independent National Electoral Commission to register the party.
Premium Times reported that the party is also seeking a stay of execution after the Lokoja court reversed the December 2025 judgement that had directed INEC to register the NDC as a political party.
Punch reported that the party confirmed the appeal on Monday, saying its legal team had filed the notice of appeal and was moving to serve INEC with the court processes.
The latest development follows NaijaTrend’s earlier report on INEC awaiting the certified true copy of the ruling and opposition reactions to the court decision, which you can read here.
According to Premium Times, NDC National Leader Seriake Dickson said the court process had been served on the INEC chairman and his team. He also said the party had been granted access to upload its candidates on the commission’s portal.
Dickson said his name and that of the party’s presidential candidate, Peter Obi, had been uploaded to the INEC portal, while the vice-presidential candidate’s details would follow after completion of the required deposition.
Punch also reported Dickson as saying the portal access was a positive step after the party filed the appeal and an application for stay of execution.
The NDC case has drawn attention because of its possible effect on 2027 election planning and the legal status of parties seeking to field candidates before INEC deadlines.
