Kano Varsity Disowns Viral Emir Sanusi Academic-Performance Video
Northwest University Kano has rejected a viral video and social-media claims suggesting that the Emir of Kano, Muhammadu Sanusi II, attended lectures to clear an alleged academic deficiency.
The university said the claim was false, baseless and misleading, adding that the video being circulated did not represent its position.
In a statement issued by its Public Relations Officer, Abubakar Ibrahim, the university said the footage showed the emir attending a public lecture organised by the International Humanitarian Law Society at the institution. It said some social-media users later attached write-ups claiming he had a carry-over and had gone to the university to clear it.
The management said it was distancing itself from the video, the write-ups and the claims attached to them. It advised students, staff and the public to disregard the posts and rely on official university channels for information about the institution.
The university also warned against creating or circulating what it described as false and defamatory content, saying anyone involved could be reported to the relevant authorities.
Vanguard also reported that the Secretary to the Kano Emirate Council had earlier told the News Agency of Nigeria that the claim was false and unfounded.
