Jigawa police arrest suspected bike-snatching syndicate over nine killings
Police in Jigawa State have arrested members of a suspected motorcycle-snatching syndicate accused of killing nine people and stealing 33 motorcycles across Jigawa, Kano and Kaduna states.
The command said the arrests followed an incident in Aujara District, Jahun Local Government Area, where a suspect allegedly attacked an okada rider and snatched his motorcycle.
Police spokesperson Shiisu Adam said officers and vigilantes recovered the motorcycle and arrested the first suspect. The arrest then led investigators to other alleged members of the syndicate operating across the three states.
The suspects allegedly admitted involvement in the theft of at least 33 motorcycles in different locations. Police also said they confessed to violent attacks in which some victims were wounded and nine people were killed.
The named suspects include Ado Saleh, also known as Datti, from Ajingi Local Government Area of Kano State, Abdullahi Saidu from Kwanar Dangora in Kano, and others linked to the alleged network. Police said investigation was continuing before prosecution.
