NSCDC arrests three over alleged NNPC pipeline vandalism in Abuja

The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps in the FCT has arrested three suspects over alleged vandalism of an NNPC petroleum pipeline in Dafa, Kwali Area Council, Abuja.

The FCT command said the arrests followed days of surveillance by its tactical team, with support from local vigilantes, after intelligence about suspected activity along the pipeline right of way.

According to the reports, the suspects first fled when security operatives moved into the area, leaving behind sections of pipeline they had allegedly cut. They were arrested after allegedly returning on September 20 to retrieve the abandoned sections and load them into a truck.

FCT Commandant Olusola Odumosu identified the arrested suspects as Maitama Inuwa, 30; Yahuza Danlami, 32; and Yasir Abdulrahman, 26. He said some other members of the group escaped into nearby bush.

The command said the matter would remain under investigation, with the seized items and suspects expected to guide further action against others linked to the alleged vandalism.

Pipeline vandalism has remained a security and economic concern because damaged petroleum infrastructure can disrupt supply, expose nearby communities to danger and cause losses for public assets.
