INEC Uses Osun Election As Benchmark For 2027 Polls
The Independent National Electoral Commission says it is using the recently concluded Osun governorship election as a guide for preparations ahead of the 2027 general election.
INEC Chairman, Prof. Joash Amupitan, said the commission was taking lessons from the poll because of improvements in polling-unit opening, BVAS performance, electronic result transmission and crisis management.
Amupitan spoke on Friday while receiving the Canada’s acting envoy to Nigeria, David Sproule, and a Canadian High Commission delegation.
He said the commission wanted to build on the Osun exercise as it prepares for a larger national vote in 2027. The meeting also touched on areas of possible support for Nigeria’s electoral process.
The commission said lessons from the Osun vote would guide its planning for polling logistics, technology and emergency response before the next general election.
