INEC Declares Adeleke Winner Of Osun Governorship Election

INEC has declared Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke winner of the state governorship election, giving him a fresh term after the final collation in Osogbo.

Adeleke, who ran on the Accord Party platform, polled 511,067 votes. His closest challenger, Bola Oyebamiji of the APC, scored 444,815 votes, leaving a margin of 66,252 votes.

The result was announced on Sunday by the returning officer, Prof Joshua Olalekan Ogunwole, after collation from the 30 local government areas. Reports from the collation showed Adeleke winning 19 local governments, while Oyebamiji won 11.

The African Democratic Congress candidate, Najeem Salaam, finished third. Premium Times and Vanguard put his total at 17,180 votes, while Punch’s earlier collation update gave a lower figure before the final declaration.

The election drew 15 candidates, but the contest narrowed sharply to Adeleke and Oyebamiji as results came in across the state. The declaration closes a voting cycle that had earlier been marked by security alerts, result-upload complaints and local government collation updates.
