NBA demands probe of delayed security response to Plateau attacks
The Nigerian Bar Association in Plateau State has asked for an investigation into alleged delayed responses by security agencies to recent attacks in parts of the state.
The association said personnel found culpable should face sanctions, while perpetrators and sponsors of attacks should be prosecuted. It also called for stronger state-level control of security operations.
Vanguard reported that the NBA branches in Plateau made the demand at a press conference in Jos on Monday, where Jos branch chairman Morgan Dung linked the call to continued violence in Mangu, Barkin Ladi, Riyom and Bokkos Local Government Areas.
Channels TV reported that the NBA condemned attacks on communities despite curfews in parts of the state. The association said repeated killings and destruction of property were weakening public confidence in government protection.
The lawyers framed the issue as a constitutional duty to protect lives and property. Channels TV reported that the association cited the constitutional right to life and said communities displaced by attacks needed stronger protection and justice.
The NBA also welcomed President Bola Tinubu’s recent visit to Plateau and his state-police initiative, but said the Federal Government and Plateau State Government still needed faster emergency response, community-focused security and prosecution of those behind the attacks.
