Flamingos Qualify For U-17 Women’s World Cup After Benin Victory

Nigeria’s Flamingos have qualified for the FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup after beating Benin Republic in the final qualifying round.

The Nigerian team won Saturday’s second leg in Lome and advanced 8-5 on aggregate, following a 3-2 first-leg win in Ikenne, Ogun State.

Daily Post reported that Mark Akpan gave Nigeria an early lead before Benin equalised. Esther Enne Stephen and Queen Joseph then scored to put the Flamingos ahead before half-time.

Joseph added another goal from the penalty spot after the break. Benin fought back with two goals, but Joseph completed her hat-trick late in the game to secure the away win.

The result sends Nigeria to the U-17 Women’s World Cup in Morocco, scheduled for October.
