Fire at the Apapa tank farm area in Lagos

A fire has broken out at the Bono Energy Terminal in the Apapa area of Lagos, forcing emergency responders to move in to stop the flames from spreading to nearby facilities.

Vanguard reported that the fire affected the Bono Tank Farm within the Best Energy Tank Farm complex in the Ibafon tank farm cluster, while Daily Post placed the incident at the facility around Coconut, Olodi Apapa, along the Apapa-Oworonshoki Expressway.

The Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service said firefighters were at the scene battling the blaze. Vanguard reported that fire units from the Nigerian Ports Authority and the Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency, NIMASA, also moved in to help contain the spread.

Lagos fire service director Margaret Adeseye said no casualties had been recorded as of the time of Vanguard’s report. Daily Post also reported that no casualties had been announced.

The cause of the fire had not been determined at the time of the reports, and Vanguard said attempts to reach the management of Bono Tank Farm and Best Energy Tank Farm were unsuccessful.
