The Federal Government says repairs on the damaged expansion joints at the Kara Bridge section of the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway will begin on September 8 and last about two weeks.

Richard Adeleye, the Acting Controller of the Federal Ministry of Works in Ogun State, announced the plan during an inspection of the affected section of the highway.

Adeleye said the expansion joints had exceeded their service life and had become a safety risk for motorists. He said the work would be done in phases to reduce traffic disruption on the busy route.

One side of the affected section will be closed first while traffic uses the other side under controlled movement. After one week, work is expected to shift to the opposite side.

The ministry said the Federal Road Safety Corps, Ogun State Traffic Compliance and Enforcement Corps, Lagos State Traffic Management Authority and other agencies would manage traffic during the repair period.
