Traffic will be diverted on Independence Bridge in Lagos Island from Friday night, October 16, as the Federal Ministry of Works begins urgent asphalt repairs.

The work is scheduled to continue through the day and night on Saturday, October 17, and Sunday, October 18, when it is expected to be completed.

Sections of the bridge will be partially closed in turn, with one lane left open for motorists. The arrangements cover traffic on both the inbound and outbound lanes.

Lagos State Commissioner for Transportation Oluwaseun Osiyemi announced the arrangements in a statement. Officials of the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority will be deployed to manage vehicles and reduce disruption during the work.

The government advised motorists to plan their journeys, consider alternative routes and follow traffic officers’ directions. It also asked road users to remain patient and obey traffic regulations throughout the repairs.
