Nigeria Power for Health Initiative investor event

The Federal Government is ramping up investment support for the Nigeria Power for Health Initiative, targeting the provision of reliable electricity to 30% of the country’s health facilities by the end of 2027.

The push was highlighted at a recent investor matchmaking event in Lagos, where officials pitched the initiative as a public-private partnership (PPP) designed to end the chronic power failures that plague Nigerian hospitals.

By leveraging clean-energy solutions and private sector capital, the programme aims to ensure that critical services—including operating theatres, emergency care, and vaccine cold-chain storage—remain uninterrupted.

With many facilities still relying on expensive and unstable diesel generators, the 2027 target requires urgent coordination between the ministries of Health and Power to move beyond pilot sites and scale the infrastructure.

The success of the initiative will hinge on transparent project selection and sustainable maintenance plans to ensure that the installed systems don’t fall into disrepair shortly after deployment.
