Gunmen Abduct Seminarian, Worshippers From Enugu Catholic Church
Gunmen have abducted a seminarian and worshippers during a Sunday morning attack on St Joseph Catholic Church, Inoyi, in Affa, Udi Local Government Area of Enugu State.
Premium Times reported that three people were taken from the church. Daily Post also reported the abduction, saying the attackers entered during a service and seized a seminarian and at least one worshipper.
Witness accounts cited by Premium Times placed the attack at the church on Sunday morning. Daily Post traced the first public account to a Facebook post by Sen Chijinkem Ugwuanyi, who said the attackers stormed the premises while worship was going on.
The reports did not identify all the abducted worshippers by name. They also did not include a confirmed police statement on arrests or rescue efforts at the time the reports were published.
The incident is the latest security scare involving worshippers in the South-East and Middle Belt, where churches and clerics have repeatedly been targeted by armed groups.
