Troops Rescue Nine Abductees After Zamfara Military-Base Attack
Troops have rescued nine abducted civilians after repelling an attack on a military base in Kaura Namoda Local Government Area of Zamfara State.
The fresh account follows the earlier Kasuwar Daji attack covered by NaijaTrend here. Punch and Daily Trust both reported that troops of Operation FANSAN YAMMA fought off attackers who tried to overrun the Forward Operating Base at Kasuwan Daji.
The reports said one soldier and one police officer were killed during the confrontation. Several attackers were also reported killed, while the troops recovered the nine civilians after the gun battle.
Daily Trust said the military described the response as a successful defence of the base in Kaura Namoda. Punch reported that the rescued abductees were found after the attackers withdrew from the area.
The incident adds to the pressure on communities around Kaura Namoda, where recent attacks have targeted residents and security positions. The latest reports did not give the names of the rescued civilians or the slain officers.
