The Federal Government says the Kano-Maradi railway project is now about 60 per cent complete, with delivery targeted for December 2027.

The update was contained in a Sunday statement signed by the State House Director of Information and Public Relations, Abiodun Oladunjoye, after members of the Presidential Media Team visited the project site in Jigawa State.

According to the statement, the Resident Engineer for Section Two of the project, Engr. Ali Bukar, said work has intensified across the key corridors, especially around the Kano-Dutse stretch.

Bridge and substructure work now at advanced stage

Bukar said major construction is currently focused on bridges across key waterways and difficult terrain.

He added that foundation works, including piling and substructure development for several bridges, have reached advanced stages, while “superstructure installations are ongoing in multiple locations.”

TVC News and PRNigeria also reported the same government position, saying the project has crossed the halfway mark and remains on a 2027 delivery timeline.

The rail line is expected to link Kano through Jigawa and Katsina to Maradi in Niger Republic, with a branch line connecting Kano to Dutse.

For now, this remains a progress update from government officials, but it is a fresh one: the main claim is that the project has reached 60 per cent completion and work is still moving toward the December 2027 target.
