FEC Approves Reform Of NYSC, Agency To Be Civilian-Led

The Federal Executive Council has approved a holistic reform of the National Youth Service Corps, the first review of the agency in its 53-year history.

Daily Trust reported that the approval was announced by the Minister of Youth Development, Ayodele Olawande, after the FEC meeting presided over by President Bola Tinubu at the Presidential Villa on Monday.

Channels TV also reported the reform, saying FEC directed the Attorney-General of the Federation and the Ministry of Youth to amend the NYSC Act and its regulations to reflect the approved measures.

Under the reform, the NYSC will be led by a civilian in its operational leadership, while the military will continue to handle security for corps members across the country.

Channels TV reported that the shift is intended to reposition NYSC as a skill-oriented, productivity-driven, youth-empowering institution that supports the administration’s ambition of building a $1 trillion economy.

According to Daily Trust, Olawande said the reform would include a full review of the scheme to align it with current realities.
