EFCC Summons Timipre Sylva Over Alleged $14.86m Fraud
The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission has asked former Bayelsa State governor Timipre Sylva to appear for questioning over an alleged $14.86 million fraud case.
The summons adds a new turn to Sylva’s clash with federal authorities, after NaijaTrend reported here that he had resigned from the All Progressives Congress while facing reports linking him to a separate alleged coup-plot investigation.
EFCC spokesperson Dele Oyewale announced the latest summons on Monday after Sylva accused the commission of acting more like an APC organ than an institution of state.
Vanguard and Daily Post both reported Oyewale as saying Sylva had been declared wanted and should make himself available to the commission. Daily Post said the alleged fraud case involved $14,859,257 and claims of conspiracy and dishonest conversion.
Sylva, a former minister of state for petroleum resources, resigned from the APC in a letter dated August 31, 2026. Vanguard reported that he accused the party’s leadership of abandoning its founding principles and said the present government had disappointed many Nigerians.
The former governor has denied wrongdoing in the past and has accused political opponents of using security and anti-corruption agencies against him. The EFCC’s fresh demand means the dispute now sits alongside the separate allegations already tied to the coup-plot investigation.
