Court Strikes Out Amaechi's Suit Against Atiku Over ADC Primary

A Federal High Court in Abuja has struck out Rotimi Amaechi’s pre-election suit against Atiku Abubakar over the African Democratic Congress presidential primary.

The case ended after Amaechi’s lawyer, Jibrin Okutepa, SAN, moved to withdraw it. Justice Joyce Abdulmalik granted the request and struck out the suit.

Amaechi, a former Rivers governor and former transport minister, had challenged the emergence of Atiku as the ADC presidential candidate after the party’s May 25 primary.

The suit asked the court to set aside the primary. According to the reports, Okutepa told the court that an application to discontinue the case had already been filed because the parties had settled their differences.

The withdrawal closes one of the legal disputes that followed the ADC primary contest, which had drawn attention because of the rivalry between two former top national figures seeking the party’s presidential ticket.
