Chelle Retains Super Eagles Job, Adds Olympic Eagles Role

The National Sports Council has renewed the contract of Eric Chelle as head coach of the Super Eagles and handed him additional responsibility for the Olympic Eagles.

Channels TV reported that NSC chairman Shehu Dikko disclosed the decision after a meeting with the Nigeria Football Federation in Abuja on Tuesday.

Chelle, who led the Super Eagles to a third-place finish at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco, will now also take charge of the U-23 side as Nigeria prepares for the Los Angeles 2028 Olympics.

Daily Post confirmed the development, reporting that the 48-year-old Malian will combine both roles. The report noted that former internationals Samson Siasia and Daniel Amokachi had previously been linked with the U-23 job.

Nigeria has missed the last two FIFA World Cups, while the Olympic Eagles failed to qualify for both Tokyo 2020 and Paris 2024. The U-23 side won gold at the 1996 Atlanta Olympics and bronze at the 2016 Rio Games.
