Nigeria’s Burna Boy is set to be the sound of the 2026 FIFA World Cup. FIFA officially unveiled “Dai Dai” as the tournament’s anthem — a collaboration between Burna Boy and Colombian superstar Shakira. The song drops on May 14.

Shakira announced the track Thursday with a 67-second teaser filmed at Rio de Janeiro’s iconic Maracanã Stadium. In the clip, she’s dressed in a yellow top and blue skirt, dancing across the pitch with a crew of performers surrounded by footballs. The video ends with fireworks over the stadium and the words: “We Are Ready.”

On X, Shakira wrote: “From Maracaná Stadium, here is ‘Dai Dai,’ the @FIFAWorldCup Official Song 2026. Coming 5/14. We’re ready! @burnaboy.”

A Record for Nigerian Music

This makes Burna Boy the second Nigerian artist ever to appear on an official FIFA World Cup song. Davido featured on the 2022 World Cup anthem, making “Dai Dai” the second consecutive World Cup to carry a Nigerian voice. No other African country has pulled that off twice in a row.

The 2026 World Cup kicks off in June across the United States, Mexico, and Canada. For a Nigerian to be the musical heartbeat of the biggest sporting event on earth — back to back — says a lot about where Afrobeats stands globally right now.

Burna Boy’s Global Moment

Burna Boy, already a Grammy winner, has spent years pushing African music into rooms it previously couldn’t enter. A World Cup anthem with Shakira — one of the most decorated pop artists alive — puts him in genuinely rare company. This isn’t a feature or a remix. It’s the official anthem.

No official audio has dropped yet, but the teaser already has fans across Africa and Latin America buzzing. May 14 is when we hear the full thing.
