Bago Says He Will Not Probe Ex-Governor Bello Despite Files On Past Government
Niger State Governor Umaru Bago says he will not open a probe into the administration of his predecessor, Abubakar Sani Bello, despite claiming that he has files on alleged irregularities under the former government.
Bago said he had chosen peace over political confrontation and did not want the state dragged into a fight with the former governor.
He spoke at the palace of the Emir of Kagara during a sympathy visit after communal clashes in Rafi Local Government Area.
The governor said his administration had documents on what he called questionable transactions by the previous administration, but added that peace and political stability mattered more to him.
Bago also criticised former appointees who recently left the All Progressives Congress after the party’s primaries. He warned defectors and people he accused of spreading false claims against his government.
