Atiku Asks Court To Disqualify Tinubu Over NYSC Certificate Claim
Atiku Abubakar has asked the Federal High Court in Abuja to disqualify President Bola Tinubu from contesting the 2027 presidential election over an alleged certificate issue.
The suit was filed by Atiku and the African Democratic Congress against Tinubu, the All Progressives Congress and the Independent National Electoral Commission.
Vanguard reported that Atiku personally appeared at the court registry on Friday to depose to an affidavit in support of the case. The report said the suit relies on constitutional and electoral-law provisions dealing with qualification for the office of president.
Daily Post reported that the plaintiffs are challenging an alleged NYSC discharge certificate said to have been submitted to INEC. The claim is that the certificate bears the name “Tinubu Bola Adekunle,” which the plaintiffs say differs from “Bola Ahmed Tinubu.”
The applicants want the court to determine whether the alleged discrepancy affects Tinubu’s qualification to contest in 2027. No court ruling has been made on the claim, and the allegation remains part of a pending legal challenge.
The case adds another legal front to early 2027 election politics, with Atiku and the ADC asking the court to decide whether the certificate allegation can disqualify the president and his party from the ballot.
