Army Says Troops Foiled Terrorist Advance On Sokoto Community

Troops of Operation FANSAN YAMMA stopped suspected terrorists from advancing into Ghandi town in Rabah Local Government Area of Sokoto State, the army said.

The operation was carried out early on Sunday after troops received intelligence about the movement of an armed group towards the community. Soldiers deployed near Ghandi Bridge, engaged the attackers and forced them to retreat before they entered the town.

Punch reported that the statement was released by Lieutenant Colonel Olaniyi Osoba, Acting Deputy Director of Army Public Relations for 8 Division. Daily Post also reported the same operation, citing the movement towards Ghandi town and the clash near the bridge.

A follow-up search at daybreak recovered one AK-47 rifle, a loaded magazine, additional ammunition and personal belongings left behind by the fleeing suspects. The army said several of the attackers sustained gunshot wounds and some tried to escape through a nearby river.

The military said search and mop-up operations were continuing around the area to track the fleeing suspects and reduce the threat to Ghandi and nearby communities.
