APC Retains Shettima As Tinubu’s 2027 Running Mate
The All Progressives Congress has retained Vice President Kashim Shettima as President Bola Tinubu’s running mate for the 2027 presidential election.
The party presented the nomination forms for Tinubu and Shettima in Abuja on Friday, ahead of the Independent National Electoral Commission deadline for political parties to upload candidate details.
APC national chairman Nentawe Yilwatda received the forms and said the ruling party was going into the race with confidence. Vanguard reported him as saying the party was not threatened by opposition moves and had a bloc of more than 12 million members.
The move ends months of speculation over whether Tinubu would keep Shettima on the ticket. Daily Post and Premium Times also reported that the party’s leadership had formally unveiled Shettima for the race.
The nomination papers were presented on Tinubu’s behalf by Ibrahim Masari, his special adviser on political and other matters. Premium Times reported that APC governors and senior party leaders attended the ceremony in Abuja.
The decision gives APC an early answer to one of the biggest questions around its 2027 campaign, while opposition parties continue to negotiate possible alliances and candidate arrangements.
