APC donates N52m to Niger miners’ families
The All Progressives Congress has donated N52m to survivors and families of the 37 miners who died in the custody of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps in Niger State.
Niger State Governor Umaru Bago disclosed the donation on Tuesday when he received the APC National Working Committee, led by the party’s National Chairman, Nentawe Yilwatda, on a condolence visit.
Bago said a state committee led by Deputy Governor Yakubu Garba would work with the Emir of Minna, Alhaji Farouk Umar-Bahago, to ensure that the money reached the intended beneficiaries.
The donation follows the wider public response to the miners’ deaths in NSCDC custody. NaijaTrend earlier reported the state inquiry into the incident here.
Yilwatda expressed the party’s condolences to the Niger State Government and residents over the deaths. Daily Post reported that he described the period as difficult for the state because of recent security challenges.
