Adeleke Seeks Visa Ban, Sanctions Over Osun Election Violence

Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke has asked the international community to consider visa restrictions and economic sanctions against politicians he accused of encouraging violence ahead of the state’s August 15 governorship election.

Adeleke made the call on Monday while receiving a British Government delegation in Osogbo. His allegations were reported by Daily Post, Punch and Premium Times, all citing statements from the governor’s side.

The governor accused some opposition figures of backing supporters involved in killings and gun attacks across the state. Premium Times reported that those named included former governor and current Minister of Marine and Blue Economy, Gboyega Oyetola, and other APC figures.

The allegations are political claims and had not been tested in court in the reports. Adeleke urged security agencies to arrest suspects and sponsors regardless of party, saying anyone linked to violence should face the law.

Punch reported that the British team visited Osun on a pre-election peace-building mission. The governor said his administration would continue to work with security agencies to prevent violence before the poll.
