Adeleke Opens N500m Fund For Osun Election Violence Victims
Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke has announced a N500 million fund for people affected by violence around the state governorship election.
The governor also said children of those who died in the violence would receive scholarships up to university level through the Adeleke family.
The announcement came on Wednesday as Adeleke received his Certificate of Return from the Independent National Electoral Commission in Osogbo after his re-election in the August 15 governorship poll.
Punch reported that Adeleke’s Special Assistant on Digital Media, Olalekan Badmus, said the Osun State Government established the endowment fund in honour of victims of the pre-election violence.
Vanguard reported that the certificate was presented by the Resident Electoral Commissioner in charge of Osun State, Professor Kunle Ajani, at the INEC headquarters in Osogbo.
The governor said the election period left injuries, property damage and deaths, and that verified victims and affected families would be supported through the fund.
He also dedicated the certificate to Osun residents, including workers, market men and women, young people, traditional and religious leaders, and other groups he said stood by him during the election.
