ADC says it will share polling-unit results while recognising INEC declarations
The African Democratic Congress says it will document, collate and publish polling-unit results during the 2027 elections, despite INEC’s warning against sharing privately collated figures.
The party said its figures would be identified as independently gathered information, not presented as official election results. It acknowledged INEC’s responsibility to declare outcomes and announce winners.
ADC National Publicity Secretary Bolaji Abdullahi set out the position in a Thursday statement responding to comments by INEC Chairman Joash Amupitan.
“Our agents will document results, our structures will collate them, and we will communicate verified figures to the public, clearly identifying their source and status,” the party said.
The ADC argued that the commission’s power to make official declarations did not remove the right of citizens and parties to collect and share polling-unit information. It said it was relying on the constitutional right to freedom of expression while recognising the limitations attached to that right.
