Accord launches Ogun campaign council, pledges 550,000 jobs if elected
Accord has unveiled a 13-member campaign council in Ogun State, with its governorship candidate Olaniyi Agbongboakala pledging to create 550,000 jobs in his first four years if elected in 2027.
The council was introduced at the party’s state secretariat on Friday. State chairman Rotimi Oke said it would coordinate the governorship campaign across Ogun.
Agbongboakala said the party had a plan to generate jobs across several sectors. He also pledged to prioritise road rehabilitation, education, healthcare, poverty reduction and youth empowerment, according to Punch.
The candidate chairs the campaign council, with Oke as vice-chairman. Toyin Azeez is director-general, Dasaolu Babatunde is deputy director-general and Ayodeji Daodu is secretary.
Other members have responsibilities for logistics, mobilisation, protocols, special duties and communications, as well as organising women and young supporters. Oke urged the team to build support for Accord ahead of the election.
The event also included an award for Hanifat Bello, a recently retired traffic warden with the Ogun State Police Command. She received a cash gift and a deep freezer alongside the award after 35 years of service.
Oke said the party honoured Bello to encourage diligent public service. Agbongboakala, who presented the gifts, said an Accord administration would improve workers’ remuneration and pay pensioners’ gratuities within 90 days of retirement.
Agbongboakala also announced a pilot for the party’s Light Up Project, proposing 300 solar-powered streetlights across Ogun’s three senatorial districts, with 100 in each district.
