Super Falcons Beat Egypt 6-2 To Reach WAFCON Quarter-Finals
Nigeria’s Super Falcons are through to the WAFCON quarter-finals after a 6-2 win over Egypt in their final Group C match.
The defending champions produced their strongest attacking display of the tournament at Stade Moulay Hassan on Wednesday night and will face Cameroon in the knockout stage.
Premium Times reported that Nigeria overpowered Egypt to set up the Cameroon tie. Punch also reported the 6-2 scoreline and said the result secured Nigeria’s place in the quarter-finals.
The result gives Nigeria fresh momentum after a difficult start to the group stage. The Super Falcons needed a strong performance in their final group game and got it with a six-goal display against an Egypt side that struggled to contain Nigeria’s pace in attack.
The quarter-final against Cameroon now becomes the next test for the Super Falcons as they chase another continental title. The fixture also renews one of African women’s football’s longest-running rivalries.
