Nigeria remain fifth on the Commonwealth Games medal table after another strong day in Glasgow, keeping the country ahead of the rest of Africa in the standings.

Punch reported that Australia had widened its lead at the top of the table, while Nigeria stayed fifth with nine gold, six silver and three bronze medals as the competition entered its closing stages.

Premium Times also reported Nigeria’s Day Eight position, saying the team added another gold and silver medal and strengthened its hold as Africa’s best-performing contingent at the Games.

The latest results keep Nigeria in the top five behind Australia and other leading teams, with the final days expected to decide whether the country can add to its medal haul.

Nigeria’s campaign has been helped by strong performances across para-sport and athletics events, giving the team a cushion over other African countries on the table.
