Peter Obi has asked the Independent National Electoral Commission to publish the academic certificates and credentials submitted by candidates seeking elective offices.

Vanguard, Daily Post and Daily Trust reported that Obi made the call while reflecting on questions contained in INEC nomination forms.

The reports said the former Anambra State governor pointed to questions on candidates’ mental fitness and whether any candidate had presented a forged certificate to INEC.

Obi argued that publishing the credentials would improve transparency, accountability and public confidence in Nigeria’s electoral process.

He questioned why documents submitted by candidates should remain confidential when voters are expected to assess the people asking for public office.

Daily Trust reported that Obi said openness in the electoral process should include documents already submitted to the electoral umpire.

The call follows a separate NaijaTrend report on the NDC appeal and Peter Obi’s upload on the INEC portal, which can be read here.
