Sunday Adeyemo, popularly known as Sunday Igboho, launched the Oyo State branch of the Iru Ekun Security Network at Mapo Hall in Ibadan on Sunday, with his media office reporting about 20,000 volunteers.

The Yoruba Nation activist called for a stronger security role for traditional rulers and said a visit to Abuja earlier in the day was intended to strengthen the network’s operations across the South-West.

A statement from his media office said the Oyo launch followed inaugurations in Osun, Ekiti, Lagos, Ogun and Ondo. It described the initiative’s reach as covering Yorubaland and parts of Kwara and Niger states.

The office also said the network had worked with the Army, police, Department of State Services and other security agencies against abductions and killings.

Igboho said his Abuja trip followed a call the previous night and was linked to his collaboration with the Olubadan of Ibadanland. He described Iru Ekun as an initiative of South-West traditional rulers.

NaijaTrend previously reported plans for a meeting between Igboho and South-West monarchs on regional security here.

At the launch, Igboho also urged Nigerians and members of the network to support President Bola Tinubu’s re-election and vote for the All Progressives Congress in the next presidential election.
