Police in Oyo State say they have rescued a one-month-old baby girl allegedly sold for N2 million and arrested two suspects, including her mother and the owner of the health facility where she was born.
The case concerns an alleged sale in Ido Local Government Area of Ibadan. Police spokesperson DSP Olayinka Ayanlade disclosed the development in a statement on Friday, October 16.
According to the police account carried by Vanguard and Daily Post, the investigation began after the baby’s grandmother, Mary Amos of Ogunwade in Ido, reported her granddaughter missing on October 15.
The mother, identified as Cecilia, allegedly told investigators that the 40-year-old health facility owner and another suspect lured her into the arrangement and facilitated the sale to a woman identified as Odunayo.
Police alleged that Cecilia received N1 million from the transaction, while two other people received N500,000 each.
The command said operatives rescued the child and arrested a suspect identified as Adeleke. It said efforts were continuing to apprehend Folawewo and other people allegedly involved.
Police urged residents to report suspected child trafficking and related offences promptly.
