Ooni, South-West Monarchs To Meet Sunday Igboho On Regional Security
Traditional rulers from the South-West are due to meet Yoruba nation activist Sunday Adeyemo, popularly known as Sunday Igboho, over regional security concerns.
Punch and Vanguard reported that the meeting was scheduled for Friday in Ijero Ekiti, Ekiti State, and would be led by the Ooni of Ife, Oba Enitan Ogunwusi.
The reports said the Owa Ajero of Ijero Ekiti, Oba Adebayo Adewole, would host the meeting. It is expected to involve monarchs from Oyo, Lagos, Ondo, Osun, Ekiti, Ogun and parts of Kwara State.
Vanguard reported that the meeting would focus on ways to protect rural communities from criminal threats and sustain peace across Yorubaland.
Punch said the information came from a statement by Igboho’s media office, which described the engagement as part of wider discussions on security in the region.
The planned meeting comes as communities in parts of the South-West continue to raise concerns over kidnapping, farm attacks and local security arrangements.
