Umahi Seeks Lagos Support For Coastal Highway Service Lanes

Works Minister Dave Umahi has asked Lagos State to support the Federal Government in funding service lanes and drainage works tied to the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway.

Umahi made the appeal during a Lagos infrastructure engagement where he also spoke about vandalism of road assets and repair works on Eko Bridge and Marine Bridge.

Daily Post reported that Umahi told Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu that the state would need to help fund service lanes and drainage channels needed around the highway. He said construction of the service lane would begin soon.

The minister said plans for the service lanes and secondary drainage channels on Sections 1 and 2 had been accelerated after heavy rain and flooding in parts of Lagos.

Channels TV reported that Umahi also condemned vandalism of public infrastructure, including damage to sections of the Festac-Alakija Bridge. Lagos authorities had earlier announced arrests in connection with that incident.

Umahi said Lot 1 of the coastal highway had been completed, while Lot 2 had passed 80 per cent completion. He also said work had started on a 180-kilometre section and that parts of the Calabar and Akwa Ibom axis had crossed 30 per cent completion.
