Two residents have been rescued alive after a one-storey residential building collapsed in the Kubwa area of Abuja on Friday.

The Federal Capital Territory Emergency Management Department said the victims were trapped on the ground floor before responders pulled them from the rubble. They were taken to Kubwa General Hospital, where officials said they were in stable condition.

Vanguard and Daily Post reported that the collapse affected a residential structure around Kubwa 2/2, near Yellow Page. The building was said to contain six blocks of flats, but other occupants were out when the right side of the structure gave way.

FEMD spokesperson Nkechi Isa said the department received a distress call at about 11:38 a.m. and mobilised to the scene. Officials said there were no deaths, although household belongings were badly damaged.

The Department of Development Control and the FCT Police Command also responded to secure the area and begin checks into what caused the structural failure.
