Two police officers killed in fresh Benue ambush
Two newly deployed Mobile Police officers have been killed in a fresh ambush in Logo Local Government Area of Benue State, days after another deadly attack in the same Ayilamo area.
The officers were on their way to escort the Divisional Police Officer of Ayilamo, who was returning from Makurdi, when armed attackers struck at about 6pm on Monday, according to accounts carried by the verified reports.
The Benue police spokesperson, DSP Peter Aondongu, confirmed that the DPO’s entourage was attacked and that two police officers were killed. Daily Trust reported that the latest deaths brought to six the number of policemen killed in Ayilamo within three days, after an earlier attack that also left civilians dead.
Residents cited in the reports linked the attack to armed men moving through forests and deserted villages around Tombo Council Ward. The identities of the two officers had not been released in the verified reports.
