The military says troops killed eight suspected terrorists and rescued three kidnapped people during separate operations in Katsina, Kaduna and Zamfara states on Saturday and Sunday.
Joint Task Force North-West media information officer Captain Tamuno Sinivie gave the account in a statement issued on Monday about Operation Fansan Yamma.
Two of the rescued people were taken to Bagega Clinic in Zamfara State for medical attention before being moved to a military base, according to the statement.
In Katsina State, troops responding to farmers’ distress calls around Machika Dam in Sabuwa Local Government Area killed two suspects and rescued a 42-year-old man, the military said. It reported recovering an AK-47 rifle, ammunition and a motorcycle.
In Kaduna State, troops and Civilian Joint Task Force members were ambushed near Ungwan Iya in Igabi Local Government Area while pursuing attackers who had abducted two residents of Ungwan Mallami. The statement said six suspects were killed.
Troops separately rescued two men at Bagega in Anka Local Government Area, Zamfara State, after their captors fled, the military said.
The account was not independently verified. The statement said patrols were continuing but did not explain whether the two people abducted in Kaduna had been freed.
