Troops Exhume Remains Of Imo Community Leader From Forest Grave

Troops of the Nigerian Army have exhumed the remains of Chief Ibe Anyadu of Aggah Community from a shallow grave in Umudike Forest, Imo State.

The Army said the recovery was carried out by troops of 34 Artillery Brigade under Operation UDO KA and Operation Eastern Sanity II. Vanguard and Daily Post both reported that the exhumation followed the arrest and interrogation of suspects linked to violent crimes in the area.

According to the Army statement cited in both reports, one suspect allegedly admitted involvement in Anyadu’s killing and led troops to the burial site. The suspect guided troops to the shallow grave on August 2, 2026.

The Army said the recovery was witnessed by members of the deceased’s family, vigilante personnel from Ohaji/Egbema Local Government Area, and representatives of Aggah and Umudike communities. The family provided a coffin and ambulance for burial rites.

Lieutenant Colonel Olabisi Ayeni, acting deputy director of Army public relations for the formation, said the earlier intelligence-led operations also led to arrests connected to the killing of a Nigerian Army soldier and the recovery of stolen service weapons.

The Commander of Joint Task Force South-East, Operation UDO KA, Major General Oluremi Ayobami Fadairo, sent condolences to the family and said the suspects would be prosecuted under Nigerian law.
