Wolverhampton Wanderers have been officially relegated from the Premier League, ending an eight-year stay in the top flight. Nigerian striker Tolu Arokodare goes down with the club.

The confirmation came after West Ham’s goalless draw at Crystal Palace on Monday night sealed Wolves’ fate with five games still remaining. Rob Edwards’ side had hoped for a reprieve after Tottenham conceded a late equaliser to Brighton earlier in the weekend.

The relegation marks a steep fall for a squad that Nuno Espirito Santo built into a competitive force, achieving consecutive seventh-placed finishes, a Europa League quarter-final, and an FA Cup semi-final appearance.

Analysis across British media points to poor recruitment as the driving factor behind the decline. The Express and Star described the season as “disastrous” for the Midlands club.

Arokodare, who joined Wolves hoping to establish himself in England’s top division, now faces Championship football unless a summer move materialises. The 24-year-old had been among the few bright spots in an otherwise difficult campaign.
